Senate Race File #011 — Florida (Special
Election)
Session 2 | October 2026 | Moody (R) vs. Nixon (D)
WHAT CHANGED: The Aug 18 primaries are over. Angie Nixon beat Alex Vindman,
56% to 44%. Ashley Moody won her primary with almost 80%. The matchup is set:
Moody vs. Nixon.
This is a special election. Marco Rubio left the Senate to become Secretary of State.
Governor DeSantis appointed Ashley Moody. The winner only serves the rest of Rubio's
term, through January 2029. The seat is up again in 2028.
Candidate A — Ashley Moody (R, appointed incumbent)
Age 51, Plant City. Florida Attorney General 2019–2025. Appointed to the Senate in January
2025. This is her first time on a Senate ballot.
THE FACTS — RECORD
As Attorney General, she joined lawsuits against the Biden administration on immigration,
healthcare and rules. She backed Florida's strict abortion law and voting measures that voting-
rights groups criticized.
In the Senate she has voted with the Republican majority on budget, healthcare and spending. Her
record is short.
Florida's home insurance crisis: prices jumped and big insurers left. The Session 1 file reported
70% of Floridians say they are falling behind. Moody has not offered a concrete plan.

FLAGGED
AIPAC
AIPAC endorsed Moody. At least $85,000 from pro-Israel PACs per
TrackAIPAC. Carried from Session 1. I could not re-open the
TrackAIPAC page for this update.
PENDING
Corporate
PACs
Vindman's campaign said about $500K of her early money came
from corporate PACs. That number comes from her rival, so it is a
claim, not a filing.
Party machine
DeSantis appointment. Full Florida Republican support.
WATCH
MONEY TEST — MOODY: AIPAC = FLAGGED. Corporate / dark money = PENDING
(needs her FEC filings to confirm).

Candidate B — Angie Nixon (D, nominee)
Florida State Representative from Jacksonville. She won the primary 56% to 44% even
though Vindman raised far more money.
THE FACTS — RECORD AND POSITIONS
Healthcare: Backs Medicare for All. Says everyone should have access to quality healthcare,
housing and fully funded public schools.
Costs: In Tallahassee she went after grocery price-gouging. Her campaign message is affordability.
War / Israel: Spoke out for Palestinian rights. In late 2023 she sponsored a Florida House
resolution calling for a ceasefire.
Politics: She says she recently joined the Democratic Socialists of America and the Working
Families Party. Local reporting also quotes her rejecting the "socialist" label and calling herself a
business owner and a lifelong Democrat. Both are her own words.
Public safety / voting: She was arrested at a May sit-in protesting DeSantis's new congressional
map. She has been outspoken on voting rights and LGBTQ rights.
Endorsed by: Rep. Maxwell Frost and the Florida Democratic Party after the primary.

NOTE
Fundraising
About $975,000 raised through July 29 (FEC), about $265K
cash on hand. Vindman raised $16.27M.
CLEAN
(stated)
Corporate PACs
She says she takes none and will fund the campaign from small
donors. That is her promise. I did not check her full filing line
by line.
PENDING
AIPAC
No AIPAC money found in the reports I read. That is "no
evidence found," not a full audit.
WATCH
Outside spending
I found no reporting of outside groups spending for or against
her in the primary. Expect this to change in the general
election.
MONEY TEST — NIXON: AIPAC = PENDING (none found, not fully audited).
Corporate / dark money = CLEAN on what she says and what was reported.
The Other Primary Finalist — Alexander Vindman (D, lost)
Retired Army Lt. Colonel and former National Security Council director. He raised
$16.27M, took no corporate PAC money and no AIPAC money, and still lost by 12 points. He
is no longer in the race.
ARCHITECT ANALYSIS (opinion): The big-money candidate lost. That tells you the
voters in her party wanted a different kind of candidate. Now it is Nixon against a sitting
senator who has an AIPAC endorsement and the DeSantis machine behind her. For a
SOURCE DOCUMENT · PAGE 43 OF 43
voter, the two clearest questions are: who has a real plan for the insurance and cost-of-
living crisis, and who is paid for by whom. On the AIPAC test, Moody is flagged and
Nixon has no flag found so far. The test can move if new filings show otherwise. I have
not seen general-election polls or ratings for this race, so I will not guess who is ahead.
STATUS: SESSION 2. NOMINEES CONFIRMED. Open items: re-check TrackAIPAC for Moody's current
total; pull Moody and Nixon FEC filings for corporate PAC lines; watch for outside spending in the general.
Change log: Session 1 (June) → Session 2 (Oct 8): Nixon is the nominee; Vindman moved to "lost"; Moody
primary result added; Nixon file built.
Sources: Florida Phoenix, Floridian Press, WUSF, Action News Jax, TrackAIPAC (via Session 1).
